Social Security Disability for Immigrants and Refugees

Navigating the Social Security disability system is challenging for anyone. For immigrants and refugees who are disabled, seeking disability benefits can be a nightmare.

That’s why Social Security attorney Cheryl Coon, along with Michele Frisela, will deliver a presentation Feb. 10 on Social Security disability benefits for refugees and immigrants to the staff of the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO).

The IRCO provides services and training for all newly arrived refugees in the Tri-County area. With four offices in Portland alone, the organization has helped more than 80,000 people by offering programs and services related to training and employment, health and aging, English language learning, naturalization and social adjustment, community development, early childhood, parenting and youth development, education and interpretation and translation.
