TCNF Bike Legal Clinics Continue Throughout Oregon

The four partners of TCNF law on their bikes

TCNF continues its long tradition of educating Oregon’s cyclists about their legal rights to the roadways this spring by presenting legal clinics in conjunction with other bicycle and active transportation partners.

Cynthia Newton served as invited presenter for women cyclists at Western Bike Works’ NW Portland shop on March 2, at the BTA’s Women Bike Clinic on March 9, and at Ride Like A Girl’s Reach the Beach training series on March 23.  For more information about Ride Like A Girl, visit http://ridelikeagirlportland.com.  For more information about the BTA’s Women’s Series, visit www.btaoregon.org/womenbike.

Ray Thomas presented his popular clinic to the Salem Bike Club on March 22, Clackamas R.E.I. on March 24, Portland R.E.I. on April 4th and at the BTA on May 4th.  For more information about the Salem Bike Club, visit www.salembicycleclub.org.   The clinics cover both well-established laws which apply to cyclists and new legislation, including Oregon SB 533, allowing cyclists to proceed on a red light under certain conditions, and Oregon SB 411, which increased automobile insurance coverage available to compensate injured cyclists.

Cynthia and Ray will expand their efforts to educate every Oregonian about their rights as human-powered road users this spring.  In conjunction with a team comprised of representatives from the Portland Bureau of Transportation, Legacy Emanuel Trauma Nurses and community activists, Cynthia will present a series of four evening clinics entitled Getting Around: Know Your Rights, to be held at the new Cully community center, the Rosewood Initiative and at two Boys and Girls Clubs, in April, May and June.  Specific dates to be announced soon.  Ray will present his popular clinics on July 6th  at 6:00 p.m. at the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, located at 618 NW Glisan St., #401, Portland, OR 97209, on September 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the Tualatin R.E.I., located at 7410 SW Bridgeport Rd, Tigard, OR 97224 and on October 19, 2016 and December 7, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, located at 618 NW Glisan St., #401, Portland, OR 97209.
