This month, 148 men and women participated in the second annual Run for Congo Women Group Run/Walk, raising nearly $3,600 to benefit women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Here at Swanson, Thomas, Coon & Newton, we’re proud to say we not only helped sponsor this important event, but our very own litigation paralegal, Amanda Ulrich, ran as part of Team Congo PDX.
The money raised during the run – which took place March 9, 2013 – will allow nine women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to spend a year learning new job skills, receiving trauma counseling and working within the support network of Women for Women International, the organization behind the annual group run. At the end of the program, each woman will receive a micro loan in order to empower her to support her family.
