On September 23, STCN held its 5th Community Service Day in conjunction with Portland Parks and Willamette River Keeper. Under clear blue skies, they headed out on the Willamette aboard Skipper Ray Thomas’ work boat to reach Sellwood Riverfront Park, where they spent the day picking up trash along the beach and clearing invasive plants from the nearby natural wooded areas.
Portland Parks’ Natural Resource Ecologist Laura Guderyahn and Willamette River Keeper’s Marci Kraus led the work and educated the STCN work group on their ongoing efforts to clean the river and maintain its banks for the access and enjoyment of Portlanders as well as their feathered and furry co-habitants.
